The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, extended his congratulations to Joseph Aoun, the newly elected President of Lebanon, during a phone call. The conversation took place as the UAE announced its intention to reopen its embassy in Beirut, which had been closed for three years.
During the call, Sheikh Mohammed wished General Aoun, who was elected by the Lebanese Parliament on Thursday, success in leading Lebanon toward development and stability.
Both leaders agreed to take steps to reopen the UAE Embassy in Beirut. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting efforts that ensure Lebanon’s security and stability and expressed hope for enhanced cooperation between the two nations for mutual benefit.
President Aoun expressed his gratitude for Sheikh Mohammed’s warm congratulations and his supportive sentiments toward Lebanon and its people.
The election of Joseph Aoun as Lebanon’s president comes after nearly two years of political deadlock, during a period marked by conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which caused significant devastation across the country.
