Following Iran’s recent missile strike on the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, stated on Saturday, June 28, 2025, that Tehran must take serious steps to rebuild the trust damaged among Gulf neighbors.
In a post on social media platform X, Gargash said that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states had adopted a unified stance during the 12-day Iran-Israel conflict, consistently calling for a political resolution to Tehran’s nuclear file and working to prevent escalation. However, he described Iran’s strike on Qatari territory as “a direct blow to all of us,” stressing that the burden is now on Iran to restore confidence in its regional intentions.
Gargash reiterated the UAE’s firm support for Qatar’s territorial integrity and emphasized that restoring trust would require “concrete commitment to the principles of good neighborliness, a halt to provocative actions, and an unconditional return to transparent dialogue over Iran’s nuclear program.”
He also warned that a continued military approach would undermine regional stability, adding that Gulf states—bound by shared interests in energy and security—remain willing to engage with Iran through a political and verifiable framework.
His remarks follow a formal statement by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which had earlier condemned the attack as a clear violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a threat to collective security, urging all parties to exercise restraint.
