The United Arab Emirates has announced the launch of its groundbreaking artificial intelligence platform, K2 Think, developed through a collaboration between the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and Abu Dhabi’s G42. The project is launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
According to the UAE’s official news agency (WAM), K2 Think is an open-source reasoning model positioned among the most advanced of its kind worldwide. Despite its lightweight and efficient design, the platform delivers performance comparable to larger-scale models, including OpenAI and DeepSeek. By leveraging human-like logic and reasoning, it can solve complex problems and conduct deep data analysis, making it suitable for a wide range of real-world applications.
Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the AI and Advanced Technology Council, described the launch as a milestone achievement in the UAE’s vision to become a global leader in artificial intelligence.
The unveiling of K2 Think coincides with the birthday of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, former President of the UAE, who played a pivotal role in advancing technology and innovation in the country.
In recent years, the UAE has emerged as one of the world’s top AI powers. In the latest global ranking, the country was placed among the top three alongside the United States and Saudi Arabia—an achievement underscoring the UAE’s strong investment in advanced technologies and its determination to lead in AI innovation by 2031.
