The United Arab Emirates has dispatched its first shipment of vital medical aid to Afghanistan following a devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake that claimed more than 2,200 lives. The relief supplies were delivered to mountainous regions near the Pakistan border.
Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and through the Emirates Red Crescent, the humanitarian aid includes medicines, medical equipment, shelters, and essential relief items for those affected. According to the state news agency WAM, this initiative is part of the UAE’s wider efforts to support the Afghan people during this natural disaster.
The main quake struck at a depth of 8 kilometers, about 27 kilometers northeast of Jalalabad, causing severe destruction. Several aftershocks and two additional powerful tremors followed, further shaking eastern Afghanistan.
UAE rescue teams — including Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, the National Guard, and the Joint Operations Command — have been deployed to the affected areas. In coordination with local authorities, they are carrying out field assessments, search, and rescue operations.
This humanitarian mission highlights the UAE’s commitment to supporting communities in times of crisis. Efforts to rescue survivors and improve living conditions for earthquake victims are still ongoing.
