See dinosaur fossils and meteorites at Abu Dhabi’s new museum.
Opening on November 22 in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum will take visitors on a 138-billion-year journey through time and space.
The largest of its kind in the region, the museum will be home to science and nature enthusiasts, with an area of 35,000 square meters and a design inspired by natural rocks.
The collection includes an 11.7-meter skeleton of the Tyrannosaurus rex “Stan” and a 25-meter model of the blue whale, the world’s largest animal.
The museum houses the 7-billion-year-old Murchison meteorite and the fossil of the extinct Abu Dhabi elephant.
The museum’s permanent galleries include sections such as “The Story of the Earth,” “The Evolving World,” “The Resilient Planet,” and “The Future of Earth.” The museum’s interactive paleontology and life sciences labs, and immersive theatre, also provide an educational and immersive experience for visitors.
In the special gallery “Abu Dhabi in the Late Miocene,” models of ancient animals such as crocodiles and hippos smaller than today’s African species have been reconstructed to transport viewers back millions of years.
The Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum will also host two international temporary exhibitions:
Triceratops Parade, the only Triceratops herd to tour the world, and a wildlife photography exhibition showcasing the work of the world’s leading nature photographers.
In addition to its educational aspects, the museum also operates as a research centre in the fields of zoology, paleontology and life sciences. Among its research projects is a collaboration with the University of Manchester on the structure of pterosaur bones, which could inspire the development of lighter, stronger materials for the aviation industry.
The Natural History Museum of Abu Dhabi is drawing an inspiring vision for future generations, with the aim of promoting science, innovation and sustainability.
