Dubai continues to expand its public transportation network. According to MEED, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially issued a request for consultancy services for the Golden Line Metro project.
This new line will start from Al Ghubaiba Station in Bur Dubai, running parallel to the existing Red Line. One of its main goals is to reduce congestion on the Red Line while improving access to key areas such as:
Business Bay
Meydan
Global Village
Dubailand and surrounding residential projects
Part of Dubai’s 20-Minute City Vision
The project plays a crucial role in Dubai’s 20-minute city concept, which aims to provide quick and seamless access to major areas within 20 minutes.
Consultancy Selection and Global Competition
Currently, the project is in the planning and consultancy phase. Major companies from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and France are among the potential bidders. The deadline for proposal submissions extends until May, after which the selection and contract awarding process will begin.
Connection to the Blue Line Metro Project
The announcement of the Golden Line project follows the official launch of Dubai’s Blue Line Metro in December 2024. The Blue Line, unveiled in a grand ceremony featuring drone shows and fireworks, is set to be operational by 2029.
Project Timeline and Implementation
The RTA has not yet announced a definitive timeline for the Golden Line’s construction. Further official updates and details are expected in the coming months.
