Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced Ahmed Zainoun from Morocco as the top winner of the fifth edition of the Arab Hope Makers initiative, awarding him a one-million-dirham prize.
Zainoun was recognized for his efforts in treating children with Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), a condition that makes them highly sensitive to ultraviolet light and puts them at a high risk of developing skin cancer.
Currently, he supports 144 children with XP, raising funds to provide them with necessary medications and protective equipment. Despite his efforts, some children have lost their lives, further motivating him to expand his “Voice of the Moon” project, which aims to improve their quality of life and ensure their education.
Two other finalists, Samar Nadeem from Egypt and Khadija Al-Qurti from Morocco, were also awarded one million dirhams each for their contributions to supporting the elderly and cancer patients.
This edition of the Arab Hope Makers initiative received over 26,000 nominations in just one month.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed stated:
“Hope Makers embody the true meaning of selflessness and relentless dedication. They are inspiring role models who transform lives without seeking anything in return, leaving behind a lasting legacy of humanitarianism. The Arab world is full of such examples of kindness and service. Honoring these efforts is a recognition of the values of generosity and compassion.”
The event, held at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, featured video presentations showcasing the journeys of the three finalists and how their humanitarian efforts have impacted the lives of orphans, patients, the elderly, and the homeless. Additionally, inspiring stories of two more Hope Makers from Tunisia and Mauritania were shared with the audience.
