Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Abu Dhabi has launched the nation’s first Bachelor of Science in AI, marking a milestone in higher education. With an acceptance rate of just 5%, the program brings together top global talent and highlights the UAE’s commitment to technological leadership.
Set to begin in Fall 2025, this program is the first of its kind in the country to offer specialized AI education from day one. Unlike traditional universities that focus on AI at the master’s or doctoral level, MBZUAI is preparing undergraduates directly for future-focused careers. Professor Timothy Baldwin, President of the university, said: “The jobs of tomorrow are being shaped by AI today, and we must equip the next generation with the skills they need for this transformation.”
Among the admitted students are Emirati twin sisters, Alaa and Aya Mohammed Al-Sayed. Alaa, the youngest recipient of the Nasser bin Hamad Global Creativity Award, has designed AI tools for neurological patients and sustainability solutions for government. She said: “For me, AI is not just about algorithms; it’s about people. We represent Emirati youth who can drive global innovation.”
Her twin sister Aya, with a background in journalism and over a dozen awards in poetry, coding, and public speaking, sees AI as a tool to transform storytelling. “I have always been a storyteller,” she said, “but AI has allowed me to merge creativity with technology. My goal is to create tools that give people with disabilities access to culture and preserve the tradition of oral storytelling.”
The program officially begins next week, and the next admission cycle will be announced soon. By attracting global talent, the initiative supports the UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031 and strengthens the country’s position as a global hub for artificial intelligence.
