The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department has issued an official warning to UAE residents, urging them not to share or post any content, images, or rumors that mock or harm the country’s image or its official institutions. The warning was published on Tuesday, April 29, on the platform X.
According to Article 25 of Federal Law No. 34 of 2021 on combating rumors and cybercrimes, violators could face up to 5 years in prison and fines of up to AED 500,000.
Previously, on April 12, Abu Dhabi Police had issued a similar warning about spreading false information and rumors, urging the public to verify news before sharing it on social media.
Authorities emphasize that preserving the reputation of the country and its institutions is a collective responsibility. Publishing anti-social or immoral content goes against the UAE’s values of tolerance and coexistence.
Legal experts add that those who persist in sharing such harmful content may face penalties of up to AED 1 million and possible imprisonment
