Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has issued a strong warning against placing any posters, flyers, or printed materials in public spaces without prior authorization. According to Law No. 2 of 2012, such actions are considered violations and subject to financial penalties.
Fines for violations are as follows:
AED 1,000 for the first offense
AED 2,000 for the second offense
AED 4,000 for the third and repeated offenses
This regulation aims to preserve the cleanliness, orderliness, and visual appeal of the city’s public areas. Businesses and individuals are urged to obtain official permits before displaying any kind of public advertisement or notice.
A public awareness campaign is currently underway encouraging residents to keep residential lanes, sidewalks, and commercial zones clean. Dumping waste or posting materials in unauthorized areas poses a threat to public hygiene and violates municipal laws.
New Rules for Rooftops and Balconies
In a related initiative, the DMT has also introduced new regulations concerning the misuse of rooftops and balconies. Storing items that negatively impact the visual appearance of buildings or pose safety risks is now subject to penalties:
AED 500 for the first offense
AED 1,000 for the second offense
AED 2,000 for the third and repeated offenses
The department specifically warned against storing old furniture, construction debris, or any unused items that may damage Abu Dhabi’s urban image or create safety hazards.
Residents are encouraged to report violations and contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and overall beauty of the city.
