The United Arab Emirates has begun planning the development of dedicated aerial corridors for flying taxis and cargo drones. On Thursday, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced that the country is working on establishing regulatory frameworks to integrate these advanced transportation technologies.
According to Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, the new aerial corridors will connect major international airports and iconic locations across the UAE, ensuring seamless integration of flying taxis and cargo drones. These regulations are expected to be finalized and implemented within the next 20 months.
Dubai Leads the Way in Flying Taxi Implementation
Dubai is set to become the first city in the world to officially launch flying taxi services. The project is scheduled to begin in Q1 2026. As part of this initiative, Dubai unveiled its first commercial “Vertiport” on January 9, named Dubai International Vertiport (DXV).
Additionally, three more Vertiports will be constructed in Abu Dhabi, located in Al Bateen, Yas Island, and Khalifa Port. These Vertiports will serve as dedicated hubs for the takeoff, landing, and operation of flying taxis, with services set to commence in 2026.
