The United Arab Emirates has unveiled its first commercial flying taxi station, named the “Dubai International Vertiport” (DXV). Recently approved by officials, this state-of-the-art facility is set to become one of the most advanced urban air mobility infrastructures, with operations scheduled to begin in 2026.
Vertiport: A Revolution in Urban Air Mobility
The term “Vertiport” is derived from the words “Vertical” and “Airport,” referring to specialized hubs designed for the vertical takeoff and landing of flying taxis and electric aerial vehicles. This innovative concept aims to transform urban transportation by reducing ground traffic and promoting sustainability.
Features and Capacity of DXV
Located near Dubai International Airport (DXB), the Dubai International Vertiport will span approximately 3,100 square meters and feature advanced amenities, including:
Electric charging stations
Dedicated passenger lounges
Modern security systems
The facility is expected to handle 42,000 flights and accommodate 170,000 passengers annually, setting a new benchmark for urban air mobility.
Technical Approval: A Step Toward the Future
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has approved the technical design of DXV, aligning with the latest Vertiport standards. This approval enables Skyports Infrastructure, the company behind the project, to proceed with its development.
Operations Set to Begin in 2026
The first flying taxi station is slated to launch in the first quarter of 2026. During the initial phase, four key stations will be established across Dubai, including:
Dubai International Airport (DXB)
Downtown Dubai
Dubai Marina
Palm Jumeirah
These stations are strategically designed to provide fast and convenient connections for passengers, offering a cutting-edge urban air mobility experience.
