Former U.S. President Donald Trump is set to arrive in Abu Dhabi today, marking the final stop of his four-day tour across the Middle East — a trip that has already been described by analysts as “historic.”
Prior to arriving in the United Arab Emirates, Trump visited Saudi Arabia and Qatar, where he signed several major deals. Expectations are high that a new agreement, particularly related to artificial intelligence, will be finalized during his time in the UAE.
According to Reuters, the U.S. and the UAE have reached a preliminary agreement under which the Emirates will annually import 500,000 advanced AI chips from American tech giant Nvidia. This deal is aimed at helping build vital data centers to support AI development across the region.
Key agreements signed during Trump’s Middle East tour include:
A deal for Qatar Airways to purchase up to 210 wide-body Boeing aircraft
A $600 billion investment pledge from Saudi Arabia into the U.S. economy
A $142 billion U.S. arms deal with Saudi Arabia
The visit has also included notable diplomatic developments. In a surprise announcement, Trump declared that the U.S. would lift long-standing sanctions on Syria. Shortly after, he met with Ahmad Al-Sha’ara, the interim president of Syria.
In a speech delivered in Riyadh, Trump sharply criticized American politicians who supported military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq. He, however, praised the leadership and vision of the region’s rulers. Highlighting the urban growth in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, he stated:
“The shining marvels of Riyadh and Abu Dhabi were not built by so-called nation-builders, neocons, or liberal NGOs who spent trillions yet failed to develop Kabul and Baghdad. The birth of a modern Middle East is being shaped by the people of this region themselves.”
Trump’s arrival in Abu Dhabi is expected to bring his strategic and commercially driven tour to a close, setting the stage for deeper economic and technological collaboration between the U.S. and Gulf nations.
