Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Sunday that Athens intends to recognize the State of Palestine. The statement was made during a press conference at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
Mitsotakis noted that the exact timing and manner of this recognition have not yet been decided, stressing that “the key question is when and under what circumstances this move will take place.”
He underlined Greece’s strategic relations with Israel, but pointed out that this has not prevented Athens from expressing strong criticism of Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
The Prime Minister also called for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, reiterating Greece’s support for a two-state solution — the coexistence of an independent State of Palestine alongside Israel as the only sustainable path to peace.
