Dubai will become the first city in the world to launch commercial flying taxi services in 2026. This service will start in collaboration with the American company Joby Aviation and will bring a major transformation in urban transportation.
The flying taxis are eVTOLs—fully electric, capable of vertical takeoff and landing, and a hundred times quieter than helicopters. Each flight can carry four passengers, one pilot, and luggage at speeds exceeding 300 kilometers per hour. A route like Dubai to Abu Dhabi can be covered in less than 30 minutes.
The first flying taxi station (vertiport) will be built near Dubai International Airport, and three other stations will be established around Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Mall, and the American University in Dubai.
In the initial phase, this service will be offered as a luxury option for business travelers and tourists, with pricing comparable to helicopter tours. However, as technology advances, costs will decrease, making flying taxis an affordable option for urban travel.
Dubai is also working with global regulatory bodies to obtain the first official license for this type of flight—an initiative that could position the city as a global model for legislation in aerial transportation.
