The flying taxis set to take off in Dubai early next year are now on display at the Museum of the Future. Dubai will be the first city in the world to launch this innovative project, with service expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
Revolutionizing Aerial Transport
Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of Transportation Systems at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), stated: “Flying taxis, with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, adhere to the highest safety standards and promise a faster and more sustainable travel experience.”
The prototype, developed by Joby Aviation, is currently on display at the Tomorrow, Today exhibition in the Museum of the Future. Majed Al Mansoori, Executive Director of the Museum, emphasized that this initiative is a significant step toward redefining urban mobility.
Joby S4 Air Taxi Specifications
This fully electric, zero-emission vehicle features six rotors, four battery packs, and a capacity for four passengers plus a pilot. The Joby S4 has a range of 161 km and a top speed of 322 km/h, making it a quieter and more sustainable alternative to traditional helicopters.
Connecting Key Locations in Dubai
The initial routes will link Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. A trip from the airport to Palm Jumeirah will take just 12 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by car.
UAE’s First Commercial Vertiport
Last month, the Dubai International Vertiport (DXV) was unveiled as the UAE’s first commercial vertiport. It will have an annual capacity of 42,000 landings and can serve around 170,000 passengers. Joby Aviation will oversee vehicle operations and passenger logistics, while Skyports will handle the design, construction, and operation of the vertiport infrastructure.
