The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has officially announced the launch of its “Flexible Summer Work” initiative across all government entities in the emirate. This initiative, running from July 1 to September 12, 2025, aims to enhance work-life balance and employee well-being during the summer months.
The move follows the successful pilot phase conducted in 2024, during which 15 government entities adopted a flexible model that included a reduced 7-hour workday and Fridays off. The pilot received overwhelmingly positive feedback and demonstrated increased employee satisfaction and productivity.
Under the 2025 rollout, the program remains optional and subject to the discretion of each government department. However, participating employees will continue working five days per week while benefiting from two key flexibility options:
1. Flexible working hours, allowing employees to choose start and end times within approved ranges;
2. Reduced daily working hours, enabling early departures or the option for shorter workweeks, such as Friday off.
The initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader commitment to creating progressive, human-centric work environments and is part of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033. DGHR stated that the long-term adoption of the program will depend on its effectiveness and feedback from both employees and departments.
By promoting smarter work structures, the Dubai Government continues to lead in fostering a supportive and efficient public sector—especially during the region’s hottest months.
