Dubai is taking a pioneering step as the first city outside the United States to collaborate with Microsoft on implementing quantum solutions for urban management. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced its partnership with Microsoft to develop and deploy quantum computing solutions aimed at optimizing energy consumption and addressing other urban management challenges.
DEWA is the first organization outside the U.S. to participate in Microsoft’s Quantum Program, which is focused on designing and developing the most sustainable and scalable quantum computer in the industry. Meanwhile, Microsoft is offering quantum-based services to organizations worldwide.
According to the Vice President of Microsoft Quantum, “Quantum computing has the potential to solve many of today’s most pressing global challenges, challenges that classical computers cannot address. Early partners like Dubai understand the benefits of participating in these projects from the outset. These benefits extend beyond gaining quantum knowledge to creating practical solutions for immediate use.”
Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating:
“We are delighted to partner with Microsoft to harness the revolutionary power of quantum computing in Dubai. This collaboration aligns with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. Our partnership with Microsoft enables us to address fundamental challenges and helps the UAE become the most innovative nation globally. Early access to Microsoft’s quantum technology allows us to develop solutions that enhance efficiency, productivity, and the quality of services we provide to our customers.”
This partnership marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s journey toward becoming a global leader in smart city innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve urban life.
