Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Emaar, will soon begin a major expansion of the Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall Metro Station. The project aims to accommodate increasing passenger demand, especially during public holidays, New Year’s Eve, and national celebrations.
The station’s area will expand from 6,700 square meters to 8,500 square meters, and its hourly capacity will rise from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers. Key improvements include:
Enhanced entrances and pedestrian bridges
Expanded concourse and platform areas
Installation of additional escalators and elevators
Separation of entry and exit gates for smoother flow
Increased number of fare gates
More retail spaces to boost revenue
Better integration with public transport systems
Upgraded green areas around the station
Since its opening in 2010, the Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall station has seen steady growth. In 2012, an 820-meter air-conditioned walkway with 10 moving walkways was opened to connect the station directly to Dubai Mall.
The architectural design of the station follows the shell-inspired form used in other elevated stations on the Red and Green Lines. The focus is on simplicity and functionality, minimizing walking distances. The station is fully inclusive, with seamless integration into the urban environment, and accessibility for people of determination, the elderly, and parents with strollers.
