Abu Dhabi has launched the region’s first beach designed specifically for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Located at Gate 3 of the Corniche, the beach was developed through a collaboration between Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, as part of a wider initiative to promote equal access and social inclusion.
Spanning 1,000 square meters, the beach is free to use and allows each visitor to bring one companion. The facility is designed to support independence, enabling users to enjoy swimming and recreation safely.
Key features include tactile-tile walkways, Braille signage, guiding ropes with audio alerts at both ends of the swim zone, trained lifeguards, specialized transport services, floating wheelchairs, and accessible restrooms.
The Corniche Beach is open daily from 6 AM to midnight, with swimming permitted until sunset. A licensed nurse is also on-site during operating hours to provide first aid if needed.
As part of the broader accessibility initiative, remote-controlled ramps with sun loungers will soon be installed at other beaches such as Corniche Public, Corniche Family, Al Bateen Public, and Al Bateen Ladies Beach, to further enhance water access for all.
